First Grade

At St. Charles, children usually begin formal religious formation in the first grade.  In order to begin preparation for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist, this year is a requirement.

Children in first year participate in monthly GIFT sessions with at least one parent and they attend a session just for first graders and a parent.  In addition, it is strongly recommended that they attend weekly Children's Liturgy of the Word at the 10:00 a.m.Mass on Sundays.  Children's Liturgy helps form our children in their faith through age-appropriate homilies and teaching.  Attending weekly truly helps our children learn and grow in their faith and helps to prepare them for Sacramental Preparation.

Children's Liturgy of the Word

Children's Liturgy of the Word is a wonderful program for children offered at the 10:00am Mass on Sundays from September through July.  This is a chance for children to hear the readings from the Mass in age-appropriate language and reflect on the meaning for them in their own lives.  All children in grades 1 and 2 are strongly encouraged to attend Children's Liturgy weekly.

Children's Liturgy is led by a team of committed volunteers, but help is always needed.  We need children to be readers and adults to help with ushering.  We also need musicians, either children or adults. Any adult interested in becoming a Children's Liturgy leader would be greatly appreciated!  Complete training is provided.
