Homework:
When asked which of the commandments was most important, Jesus gave a surprising answer. He said that we must love God above all things with our hearts and minds and souls and we should love others as ourselves. If we do these, we will be doing more than just following the laws and rules. We will change everything with love.
Take a few moments to read the Scripture account of the new commandments; Matthew 22:36-40.
Talk with your parents or someone you trust:
· What does it mean to love God with all our hearts, minds and souls?
· How do we show that we do this?
· What does it mean to love others as much as we love ourselves?
· How do we show this kind of love?
Prayer is our communication with God – so this week, ask God in prayer to help you really love him with your whole heart, with your thoughts and with your actions. In prayer, ask God to show your family how you can care for those around you.
Loving others is often shown in action. How can you as a family show love to others this week? Can you make a meal for a neighbor? Offer to help an elderly parishioner with shopping or errands? Choose something that you can do to show your love for others and make a plan to do it. If you are asked why you are doing this – what will your answer be? Be ready to share your faith with those you will serve.
