Scripture Enrichment
Bible Study
As Catholics, we believe that God reveals himself in the world through nature, through each other, through the life of the Church and through the Scriptures. The Bible is not a book, but a collection of books, hence the name Biblia in Greek which means library. The Bible was not written all at once and it was not written by one person. And, it was not written in English. The prominent language of the Old Testament was Hebrew and Greek was the language for the New Testament. The first bible was not printed until nearly 1500 years after the birth of Jesus. For many years, Christians heard the scripture stories at Mass, or possibly from art or performances. Now, we can easily download the entire bible on our phones!
One of the best ways to learn more about Jesus is to read the bible. Need a plan to start? Try reading the four Gospels. Allow the life and teachings of Jesus to take root in your heart. The teachings of Jesus are radical and challenging. They call us to a way of life that is much deeper and hopefully, more rewarding.
